Acute Myeloid Leukemia
Date Added: 2018-07-16
In November 2013 I was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia and was given six weeks to live.
At the time my boys were one and three and I was thinking what is going to happen to us now?
Thankfully there is Princess Margaret Cancer Centre. I was transferred to PMH and started chemo the next day.
I shaved my head before my hair fell out, I kept my head up high to welcome this seemingly impossible fight, and kept focused on the task at hand - getting healthy and back to my boys!
After 3 rounds of chemo, I was in remission! However, another tougher fight was ahead of me. I had a Bone Marrow Transplant in August 2014. The toughest thing I’ve ever had to do. I was told the survival for the first 100 days was only 50%. I had to fight so hard to stay alive.
I am proud to announce that I am healthy and happy today!
I am a Tough S.O.B because I fought so incredibly hard, with a positive attitude and some smiles along the way. There were times when I looked into the mirror, feeling sad. Who is this person in front of me, so beat up and sick. My sweet brother in law gave me a Tough S.O.B. toque, which reminds me how awesome I really am! “Hey Jess, you are one tough S.O.B!!! I love you and I am so proud of you!” All we need is just a little reminder.
Big love,
